Home of the Durbanville Villains est. 1972 News from the Dugout – 28 August ‘09Winter Training Well the new season is approaching fast, so it’s time to start looking for those mitts, cleats, bats and balls, dusting them off, and start practising! All Pre-season Practises are open to all seniors, including U16’s. As well as the Inter Squad Game scheduled for the 6th September.There is a Training Programme set out for all these dates. After the 20 September, all seniors and the U16s will train on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the times will be announced closer to the date. Junior Winter Training Winter training for the U10/U12/U14 will take place on Sundays, from 14h00 until 16h00; this will continue upuntil 20th September, thereafter, they will train on Mondays and Wednesdays from 18h00 until 19h30. Social Side Training Those of you who have more experience picking up a beer than a baseball, but still want to show the kids a thing or two about baseball, are encouraged to join the social side (emphasis on social!), every Sunday from 11h00. All sizes, shapes and skill levels are most welcome to join in the fun. Please contact Dylan Le Roux (082 249 8943) for more info. Masters Side Training For the guys, who still think that they are capable of playing, not quite over the hill, even though the body is telling them to sit down and relax, but want to show off their skills to the kids, for the more serious players, they are training at 11h00 on Sundays. Coaches/Managers/Scorers This is a request from the Club committee to all members, to please make an effort to get involved in supporting your children who are participating in baseball. As members of DBC, we are ALL responsible to assist with the activities of the sport of baseball. No club can survive if the members are not active in supporting its core activities! Please contact Steven Combrink on 073 406 9960. Position Vacant - Fund Raising Coordinator Who will be willing to take up this post? There are already members who have made themselves available to help out with fund raising activities, Oktoberfest, etc. All they require is someone to coordinate all the different facets of the fund raiser, while they get on with the hard work! (021)947-1145 BAWP Website The new BAWP inter-active website is up and running. Some of DBC members have experience some problems when trying to register to receive general correspondence. This is being investigated and addressed with BAWP DBC Website The committee has approached a web site designer to revamp our website to make it more inter-active and user friendly! 31st July Meeting Marc Moreau and Peter Joubert had a very successful meeting with the City of Cape Town to discuss the best way to make use of the R100 000 allocated for capital improvements. The Club would like to install men’s toilets in the old tuck-shop and to lay a foundation and slab, with a roof, for a new future bar area. Forth-coming Attractions! OKTOBERFEST – 31st October @ 19h00 Please diarize this date and support DBC in their fundraising efforts. We are notifying everybody in advance to make this a really great event! Tickets are available from Gayleigh or Helen every Sunday from 13h00 – 15h00. There are only 120 tickets, so buy them now to avoid disappointment! Open Day – 20th September We will be holding our annual open day to kick-start the drive for new members and to register all players. Details of program will be announced. Pre- Season Tournament 10-11 October The weekend of 10/11 October has been made available to DBC to host an U10 and U12 pre-season tournament. This tournament is sanctioned by BAWP. Every individual player must purchase baseball pants, boots or cleats, DBC cap, DBC warm-up top, undershirt and mitt. The contact details and costs will be available shortly. BAWP Workshop Meeting for all Committee MembersThere is a BAWP Workshop meeting this Sunday at 13h00, to review and ratify all the decisions taken at the BAWP Workshop weekend.
